Uh ooooohhh...... Back AGAIN! *Nicki Minaj voice*

The Fashion Homewerq supper club met for dinner ... and this time we painted the town RED!

This time we explored a restaurant in The Heights neighborhood of Houston: Down House.

Each month I choose a restaurant that will provide a unique dining experience and hit the culinary bullseye. Down House did not disappoint!

Appetizers Rating: 10/10

Bread and Butter: exactly what it sounds like but elevated! The bread comes pre-sliced and toasted with butter that has been smeared around the bowl for maximum spreadability which I wholeheartedly appreciate.

Korean Fried Cauliflower: MUST ORDER! The entire group LOVED this dish. A natural skeptic of "It tastes just like chicken wings!" even I was blown away by the flavor and crispy texture. YUMMY!

Drinks Rating: 10/10

Who can complain about a champagne toast?!

Entree Rating: 8/10

Shrimp and Grits: A southern classic with asian flair... Pho broth, sriracha and a lime garnish definitely elevate this dish to unique heights.

Fried Chicken: Juicy and flavorful chicken fried super crispy and paired with Sunday dinner staples. The mashed potatoes were creamy. The greens were tender but very roughly choped. Large pieces had to be cut down to take polite bites.

Mushrooms On Toast: The resident vegetarian opted for this appetizer as her entree and liked it. I hate mushrooms so any commentary would be biased. LOL.

Curry Fish and Chips: An English classic with a South Asian twist. The diner who had this dish liked it and would recommend.

DIShonorable mention: THE MACARONI and CHEESE is a travesty. I would hope that this was an off night BUT I never send anything back... and I sent this dish back. Unseasoned and light on cheese, it tasted and had the texture of noodles tossed in butter with a hint of cheese and breadcrumbs for garnish. Would not recommend.

Ambiance: 10/10

Down House embodies their rustic, farm to table ethos from weathered, white washed door to the large wooden table we ate on. The private dining area has windows on three sides and a mirror on the fourth wall to reflect even more light. The staff was AMAZING! We had Josh as our server and he was attentive and funny. The manager sent us a round of champagne and MARK’S SUPER DANK CHOCOLATE BROWNIE to celebrate a birthday guest.

..... and now the LOOKS:

That's all, folks! The next dinner is September 25th. Subscribe on the homepage to be selected to attend the next dinner.
