Lesson 003: Hello, Yellow!

The last Tuesday of September just passed which means we had dinner... obvs! The Fashion Homewerq Supper Club convened at Liberty Kitchen at theTreehouse. There are multiple locations in Houston but the Bunker Hill spot promised to be extra special with the rooftop terrace and gorgeous fountain. Guests arrived and were seated in the main floor private room which the manager graciously offered as accommodation. The restaurant is well appointed and cozy. I can’t wait to return and sit in one of the intimate booths for brunch. Floor to ceiling windows make up 2/4 of the walls with a view of the wine cellar making up one whole wall as well. The eclectic wall paper and industrial metal table served as the perfect backdrop for our Hello, Yellow dinner!

Appetizers Rating: 8/10 (not pictures) TRIPLE COOKED JUMBO WINGS: These wings came out of the kitchen hot and crispy.. unfortunately the promise of a spice rub was never fulfilled. The sauces really make or break this appetizer as the wings themselves are under seasoned though perfectly cooked. CHILIES CON QUESO & WARM TORTILLA STRIPS: A tex-mex staple that didn't disappoint. The warm tortilla strips were the perfect cut for dipping and hearty enough to stand up to the thick cheese sauce. SMASHED AVOCADO, TOMATO,JALAPENO: Better known as guacamole. All ingredients were fresh and bursting with flavor. DEVILED EGGS: The standard deviled egg. Ordered plain due to dietary restrictions, they were exactly what a deviled egg should taste like. Entrees: 9/10 Daily Special Blackened red snapper: Served whole topped with lump crab and jalapeño cream sauce. I chose the sour cream mashed potatoes as my side. This dish was flavorful and the fish was tender. The cream sauce was a real standout. Hints of spice throughout the dish definitely made it memorable. I would definitely reorder. Daily special shrimp and grits: The table favorite! The grits are thick and creamy. The shrimp was tender. GUERILLAS ON DIAMOND HEAD FRIED RICE: Our vegetarian guest ordered this dish sans any animal flesh and enjoyed it. I will be returning to try it as presented by the chef because from the menu description... it sounds delicious! LIBERTY BURGER TH: An all american burger with thick cut fries. It's hard to go wrong. DELUXE PICNIC-STYLE COBB w/ SHRIMP: I'm not a salad as an entree fan but THIS salad could definitely make the cut. Topped generously with all the standard cobb fixings with shrimp added, I could eat this salad any night of the week. CLASSIC CHEDDAR-AMERICAN MAC & CHEESE: This side dish comes out bubbling hot. Large pasta shells baked in a creamy cheese sauce and topped with buttered bread crumbs. My mouth is watering all over again.

FUN FACT: If there's macaroni and cheese on the menu, I'm ordering it.

Dessert: 10/10

Just when we were saying that we couldn't eat another bite after two delightful courses... the manager sent out two desserts.

WHITE CHOCOLATE-RASPBERRY BREAD PUDDING: OMG! This bread pudding is so moist! Sometimes bread puddings can come out on the drier side and require ice cream. The lake of caramel sauce is the exclamation point on a decadent dessert declaration.

CHOCOLATE ESPRESSO CAKE: I don't want chocolate cake unless it reminds me of the cake from Matilda. We cleared this plate in record time. Deep chocolate flavor enhanced by a silky ganache?! More please!

As for the fashions......

That's it for the yellow dinner. The next dinner is 10/30. Subscribe to the site to be invited to the next dinner!
